Mobile phones and laptops have increased in use for live radio for 2 reasons, 

The first reason is because it’s much easier to access, a mobile phone is portable and can be used in almost any situation as it can be carried around all day 

The second reason is availability , most radios can be found in cars however some people do not have cars, iPods can be extremely easy to use and light weight, so they’re useful for people who want to listen to the radio when going out without a car
