a subsidiary is the smaller company owned by a conglomerate company /

an independent company is a company that isn't owned by any other business

independent companies often work with larger companies or more established companies to get their product distributed an example is when hat trick productions worked as part of a joint venture with  channel 4 to get it on tv. when companies work as part of a joint venture it is because it is mutually beneficial for both companies.

a public service company is a company funded by the public for example  TV license , which helps to pay company like bbc and other ones
